Understanding Your Condition
Having a proper understanding of your condition is important. The following is not intended
as a guide for self-diagnosis but can be helpful for communicating your needs when booking
an appointment.
Athlete’s Foot: This is a fungal infection primarily affecting the skin between the toes. It can spread to the toenails, causing a fungal nail infection if left untreated.
Verrucae: Verrucae are contagious warts that require attention to prevent pain and further transmission.
Corns: Thick, hardened skin formations that develop due to excessive friction or pressure on specific areas.
Fungal Nail: Often associated with athlete’s foot, fungal nail infections manifest as discoloured, uncomfortable, thick, distorted, or brittle nails.
Hard Skin: Hard skin, commonly referred to as callus, appears as yellowish patches and can build up, over time, causing discomfort. Neglected hard skin may lead to cracking and more severe complications.
Thick Nails: Thickened toenails can indicate underlying issues. If left untreated, they can become increasingly painful and challenging to treat.
Nail Surgery: This procedure involves the partial or complete removal of a toenail under local anesthesic. Nail surgery is typically performed to alleviate pain and address recurrent infections.
Vascular and Neurological Assessment: Vascular assessments evaluate the blood supply to the feet. Neurological assessments focus on the sensory nervous system, including tests for protective sensation loss and vibration sensitivity.
